Risk of Rain 2 N'tormat

Quick Answer

The N'tormat uses a Curio slot separate from equipment. Select and cast a ritual page. Consumed pages usually return next stage, but sacrifice travel can skip that return. Acquiring pages also adds Teleporter catastrophes.

The N'tormat is Hallowed Concepts' Curio, or key item, with seven usable ritual pages. It occupies a slot separate from equipment. Select a page with the change-key-item action, then cast it with the activate-key-item action. Casting consumes that page for the current stage, and consumed pages ordinarily regenerate when the next stage begins.

Obtaining a page also creates Teleporter catastrophe obligations. Treat the book as an active tool with a cost attached to acquisition, rather than a passive upgrade you can collect without changing the run. Reincarnation is especially important to read before casting: its ordinary effect kills players inside a delayed circle, while specific locations give it separate travel behavior.

Keep the Curio slot separate from equipment

The N'tormat does not replace the normal equipment slot. You can plan around an equipment effect and a selected page without treating them as the same button or cooldown system. Use the action names shown in your control bindings, because the physical key depends on how your controls are configured.

A player can hold one key item at a time. Picking up a different key item would swap the held one, and automatic collection only applies when the slot is empty. Key items can also be enabled or disabled through the lobby's run rules. If the book is absent from a run where you expected it, check the rule setting as well as the actual reward collection.

The book's Dormant state means every available page has been consumed. It does not mean that the Curio has permanently disappeared or that the pages cannot return. Ordinary stage transition restores consumed pages, so distinguish current-stage availability from the set of rituals you own.

Obtain the book alongside page rewards

Pages come from completing a Shrine of Compulsion objective, opening the Ancient Sepulcher during The Wake, or completing an N'kuhana Trial. Those rewards give pages to players and provide the N'tormat to someone who does not already have it.

If you have completed the encounter but still lack the expected ritual, check the actual inventory. Seeing the reward sequence is different from confirming what you hold. In a cooperative run, distinguish your own available pages from the team's combined collection when you are planning a cast.

A Trial Gong gives you a route into a Winnowing when you are seeking trial rewards. The trials have their own objectives; entering one does not automatically award the book or finish a later hidden-realm route. Complete the objective and collect the rewards before continuing your plan.

Shredded Page is not an eighth usable ritual. Scrapping a useful page gives that inert form, which does nothing. It also does not count as a qualifying page for the catastrophe and Shrine of Descent rules. Check the page's actual name instead of counting every page-shaped icon as equivalent progress.

Check the selected page before activating the Curio

Changing the key item action switches between pages. Activating casts the currently selected one. That order is important when some pages give temporary combat benefits while others alter a ground item or sacrifice players.

Before casting, make three checks: the selected ritual is the one you intend, its target or location is appropriate, and the teammates affected by it understand the result. The book does not infer your goal from the encounter. A page selected earlier remains a different action from another page you recently acquired.

After casting, check whether the page is consumed and what effect actually occurred. A consumed page is unavailable for another normal use during that stage, but still counts toward some ownership rules. Casting is not the same as scrapping or otherwise removing the page from the inventory.

Use Clarity to reopen a combat window

Clarity refreshes skills and readies equipment, then reduces their cooldowns by 75% for ten seconds. It supplies an immediate reset followed by a short period of faster reuse. That makes timing the cast important: using it while your important skills are already ready provides a different benefit from using it after spending them.

Plan which skills or equipment you want to use again during the window. The temporary reduction does not remain for the entire stage. A long reposition that consumes most of the window can leave you with less opportunity to use the benefit than an intentional cast during a relevant fight.

Keep the equipment action distinct from the page action. Clarity can ready the equipment, but you still need to use the equipment according to its own rules unless another effect changes its activation behavior.

Choose control, assistance or cover for the encounter

Purify sends a wave that permanently reduces the maximum health of non-allied targets it hits. Normal enemies lose half their maximum health, while champions and bosses resist more strongly. The wave does not itself deal damage. Use it to change the health pool you must work through rather than expect the cast to deliver the same result as a direct damaging attack.

Fanatic Summons calls ten allied Lynx Pups that attack with bites. The purpose is assistance from summoned allies, not an immediate reset to your own skills. Consider the enemies in front of you and the space available for those allies when deciding whether this is the page you need.

Shadow Cloak affects the caster's team after a short delay, granting thirty seconds of invisibility, 40% movement speed, and 100 armor. Its team effect includes drones and minions elsewhere on the map. The delay matters when you are already under pressure: casting and instantly becoming protected are not the same moment.

The pages solve different problems. Purify changes enemy health, Fanatic Summons supplies allies, and Shadow Cloak supplies a temporary cover-and-movement window. Select the action that addresses the current encounter rather than always spend whichever page is first in the selection.

Target ground items carefully with Dark Alchemy

Dark Alchemy downgrades a targeted ground item within thirty meters to the previous tier and creates a second copy. The target is an item on the ground, so this is a different action from choosing an arbitrary item inside your inventory.

Hallowed Items become two Hexes, and Hexes become two Common items. Common, Lunar, and Page items cannot be targeted. That means the downgrade is not a universal way to duplicate any valuable object you find.

Read the target before casting. Converting a Hallowed reward into penalties is different from converting a Hex into ordinary items, and a lower-tier result is part of the exchange. Decide whether the two new copies serve your run better than the original ground item rather than treat the additional copy as a free upgrade.

Use Warp Gate for a deliberate destination

Warp Gate places a gate that lets a user teleport toward a visible destination. The arrival causes an area blast whose damage depends on distance traveled and freezes enemies. The gate has limited uses, and a canceled exit still spends a charge.

Choose a destination you can use after the arrival, not merely the farthest point in view. The movement changes your position, while the blast affects the enemies near that arrival. A destination with no relevant target may be useful for travel but does not make the offensive part equally valuable.

Do not spend charges opening and canceling exits without a route in mind. Check the remaining availability after interacting, and distinguish the gate you placed from the page that created it. The page's consumed state and the gate's remaining uses are separate pieces of the action.

Read Reincarnation as a location-dependent ritual

Outside a sacrifice zone, Reincarnation marks a six-meter circle and executes players caught inside after two seconds. It also kills weak non-boss monsters and damages stronger targets. The wording about sacrifice is literal; it is not a harmless ordinary revival effect.

Specific sacrifice zones can send the team to another destination. Those zones have their own conditions, and in most of them a player holding the N'tormat must remain inside the circle. Players sacrificed in travel zones have revive items disabled, while ordinary out-of-zone execution follows different revival behavior.

After a sacrifice transition, consumed Reincarnation copies skip their regeneration at the next stage. An unused additional copy, or a teammate’s unused copy, can therefore matter when planning another sacrifice. Do not assume that this travel always restores the page you just spent.

There is also a distinct door interaction after the Anima Harvester in Soulbound Threshold. Using Reincarnation there opens the Veil of Memory toward Terminal Lucidity without killing players. Identify the actual location and context before treating this special case as the behavior of the ritual everywhere.

Account for the Teleporter cost of acquiring pages

Qualifying pages create lesser-catastrophe obligations for future ordinary Teleporter events. Consumed copies count, while Shredded Pages do not. The team's page count is adjusted by player count, and catastrophes already applied are tracked rather than simply repeated for every future event indefinitely.

An ordinary Teleporter can receive up to five different effects, and the effects end when charging finishes. Acquiring several pages can therefore change the next relevant fight even if your intended ritual is a supportive one. Prepare for the encounter cost as well as the benefit of the selected page.

The Shrine of Descent uses a separate placement requirement and starts the major Soul-binding trial. Its team page totals are one, four, nine, and sixteen for one through four players. It must be activated before the Teleporter, and its trial occurs at most once per run. Owning one useful page in a large lobby does not meet the same route requirement as owning one in solo play.

Distinguish a complete book from a required door unlock

The book's complete-collection check uses every usable page except Clarity. The team can hold those six between them, including consumed copies, when the Anima Harvester is defeated. Meeting that collection condition changes the exit objective's hint toward the alternative route.

The door itself still opens through Reincarnation whether or not that collection is complete. Do not turn the hint condition into a claim that all six pages are mandatory before you can use the door. Collection progress and the actual interaction requirement are different checks.

Before leaving a stage, confirm which pages remain usable, which are consumed, and which have been removed or replaced with Shredded Pages. Then plan the next cast and the next Teleporter separately. The book is useful when you choose its action deliberately and account for the acquisition cost, rather than assume every newly collected page should be activated immediately.
