Use Bandit's positioning to create a useful critical attack, then secure a deliberate Lights Out kill to reset the next action. Burst, Smoke Bomb and Lights Out already form a complete starting loop. The inventory should make that loop safer and more dependable, rather than forcing you to chase an enemy's back across a dangerous battlefield.
The Desperado variant is a different special plan. It exchanges the reset reward for damage tokens during the current stage. Choose the special between runs according to whether you value another escape-and-reload opportunity or the stage's growing special damage.
Start with the flank-and-reset loadout
A flank is useful only if you can leave it. Before crossing behind a target, check terrain and the enemies approaching from the other side. Smoke Bomb gives a repositioning opportunity, but attacking ends invisibility. Make the next attack count rather than firing immediately after using the utility and losing the movement window.
Fund the primary before relying on every reset
Take movement when it improves access and retreat. Paul's Goat Hoof, Energy Drink and Hopoo Feather are candidates, with different roles on the route. Soldier's Syringe can support firing and reloads; applicable on-hit damage supports the primary when a clean finishing opportunity is not yet available.
Lights Out needs the killing blow to deliver the reset. If a target survives, keep the ordinary reload and escape plan functional. Bands can support useful special hits when offered, but do not spend the entire inventory on a finishing shot while leaving the primary too weak to prepare it.
Harvester's Scythe is a conditional recovery candidate when you can land safe critical attacks. Backstab can supply those critical hits, but forcing an unsafe rear angle to recover is a poor trade. Cautious Slug offers a disengagement alternative. The item guide helps evaluate those triggers against the current inventory.
Make reset decisions from the target's actual health
Soften an enemy, check whether Lights Out can finish it and fire when the opportunity is dependable. The reset can support another movement window, a new secondary attack or a refreshed primary magazine. It does not require you to immediately repeat the most aggressive action.
On a crowded Teleporter, keep one threat available for a useful finishing shot while avoiding blind tunnel vision. If the boss is not near a reliable kill threshold, ordinary fire and safe movement remain valuable. A theoretical series of resets is not a strategy when every attempt depends on an enemy surviving allied attacks at precisely the right health.
Change to Desperado for a different reward
Desperado kills provide tokens that increase its damage during the stage. They do not supply the Lights Out reset. The token bonus is lost at the stage transition, so a new stage needs a normal firing plan again.
Take convenient Desperado kills along the objective route. Do not clear distant optional areas solely to grow a token count without comparing that detour to the remaining stage. If the special is already doing useful damage but travel and recovery remain weak, spend the next pickup on the missing part of the build.
Serrated Shiv provides a ranged alternate to the dagger, and Blast provides a different primary pattern. Use those choices for a particular range or safety problem. Changing several slots at once makes it harder to identify whether the improvement came from safer positioning or a different damage rhythm.
Account for teammates and mode restrictions
In co-op, teammates can draw attention and make a rear angle easier to reach, but they can also secure a finishing kill before your special does. Do not make your only escape depend on a reset the team may accidentally remove. Coordinate target pressure when convenient while keeping a functional fallback.
On Monsoon solo, choose efficient opportunities rather than seeking a Backstab on every small target. Ordinary primary damage can remove a threat faster than a long detour behind it. For Eclipse, preserve Smoke Bomb and movement so that a missed reset does not become repeated incoming damage. See the Eclipse build guide before assuming recovery can erase that failure.
Backstab checks Bandit's relative position. An explosion appearing behind an enemy does not itself prove that Bandit attacked from behind. When the expected critical result is missing, inspect the positioning first rather than adding an invented damage multiplier to the build.
